PENANG MALAYSIAN CUISINE
Located in the heart of Philly's itsy-bitsy Chinatown, Penang features a funky industrial interior and an extensive, meat-centered menu. Picky's Mee Siam (stir fried rice, vermicelli, tofu, shrimp and bean sprouts in spicy chilli Thai sauce) was absolutely delectable, but Messy's plain vegetables and rice left much to be desired. Make sure to come here with a wad of cash if you're planning on appetizers and drinks – they don't accept credit cards!
Unfortunately, they don't have the chunky hot peppers in hot oil sauce that many other eateries in the area carry, but if you ask for it, they'll bring out a little plate of hot sauce to further spicy up your plate.

penang is my FAVEorite. i love squid though. i can see where a veggie would go nuts trying to find something on the menu…

Penang is awesome. It's very cheap for lunch and you can get some truly unique tastes if you like to try new things. My vegetarian girlfriend always finds good things to eat. I'd tell you what they are, but I can't remember the names of any of the dishes. There's a tofu and peanut sause appetizer that is good and deep-fried icecream is a good desert.

This place is amazing! The Roti appetizer with the peanut chicken dip was divine, I wanted to eat the dip by itself. It is savory, spicy, with a hint of sweetness. The Roti is fresh and crunch of the outside where it was grilled but soft and warm on the inside. I always get the same thing, which is the sizzling beef. The beef is tender and the sauce is flavorful. This place is one of my favorites!!! the service is always super fast and friendly.
